YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision at Youngstown State on Thursday afternoon.
Buffalo took the lead early, scoring the opening point in doubles. Simon Wibler and Finn Macnamara came away with a 6-2 win at first doubles, while Greg Hastings and Daniils Snaiders won third doubles, 6-3.
The Bulls then won the first two singles matches as Cheng Tang won 6-4, 6-0 at third doubles and then Theodoros Mitsakos followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at fifth singles, but the Penguins won the final four matches of the day to complete the comeback victory.
"Obviously we are disappointed with the loss, especially after winning doubles and building a lead in singles," said head coach Lee Nickell. "Credit to Youngstown for sticking with it. Rex and Theo did a good job maintaining energy throughout the match, but we will need a full team commitment if we want to succeed this season. We will get back to practice and prepare for Cornell on Saturday."
The Bulls return to action on Saturday at Cornell at 3pm at the Reis Tennis Center.
