The 68th man field was the strongest U-20 field assembled in several years. Leading the Bulls was Matt Gensel with an incredible race, running a personal best time over the 8k distance of 24:59.6 and placing 20th. Gensel methodically moved up in position throughout the 8k race, closing the last kilometer in 2:57.7 and moving up from 22nd to 20th to edge out Grady Mylander of Utah State. Luke Stoeffler, coming off a personal best Mile (4:16.64) the week before at the BGSU Invite, ran a personal best 8k of 25:38.3, moving up 3 places in the last kilometer to placed 34th overall. Ty Fluharty rounded out the field for the Bulls in 51st place, running a tough and gutsy race.Β
"The men represented extremely well and some of the best young runners from around the country. This is the future of the men's distance team, and they demonstrated today that they will be a force in the MAC, the NCAA Northeast, and the NCAA in the future years," stated Associate Head Coach Todd Witzleben. "I am very proud of their aggressive racing and ability to perform at a National Championship."
