PRINCETON, NJ - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team had a solid opening weekend of action, facing competitors from Princeton, and Georgetown at the Orange Lawn Invitational.
The Bulls got off to a great start on Friday winning a pair of singles matches, highlighted by Daniils Snaiders who beat Princeton's Sebastian Sec in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. Sec had a decorated junior career as he ranked top 100 in the world junior ITF rankings. Freshman Theodoros Mitsakos picked up the first win of his UB career defeating Aidan Mahoney 6-4, 6-1.
On Saturday, Buffalo faced the hosts once again, where Finn Macnamara notched his first win of the season, defeating Matthew Bosancic 6-4, 6-1. In doubles action, Macnamara and Cheng Tang teamed up to take down Bosancic and Filippos Astreinidis 8-4. UB squared off against Georgetown in the second match of the day as Mitsakos and Snaiders defeated the Adhvyte Sharma and Akira Morgenstern 8-3.
Sunday's action concluded as the Bulls squared off against Georgetown and Princeton, dropping a pair of close doubles matches. The final singles matches were stopped midway through due to rain.
"I am very optimistic after this weekend," said head coach Lee Nickell. "The guys did a good job of adjusting mid-match and everyone had some good wins in singles and doubles play. We are going to capitalize on this momentum and work towards our first team event the first weekend of October."
Buffalo will host a UTR event at the UB tennis courts September 23-25 before returning to team play October 1-2 at the Youngstown State Invitational.
