
Bulls Host Drexel on Sunday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball looks to bounce back as they conclude their homestand and host the Drexel Dragons on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Arena. It is the first event in a tripleheader, with the UB men following the women against Canisius at 2:30pm and wrestling taking on Binghamton in the finale at 7pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Matt Mattia (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on ESPN 1520AM or on the Varsity Network with Jack Kruezer on the call.
It will be the third overall meeting between the Bulls and Dragons with UB winning both previous matchups, most recently a 64-59 victory at the Saint Joseph's Hawks Classic in 2019.
Buffalo is coming off a tough loss to Mercyhurst on Tuesday night. The Bulls had two looks at the basket on their final possession but neither dropped as time expired. Buffalo was led by Zakiyah Winfield who put together a phenomenal performance, scoring a game-high 22 points to go with a career-high 14 rebounds while also adding six assists and two steals. It was the third straight double-double for Winfield. Fifth year guard Jazmine Young also scored in double figures with 12 points to go with four rebounds, five assists and two steals.
The Drexel Dragons are 3-1 overall after defeating Lehigh 84-61 on Tuesday night. Drexel finished the 2021-22 season with a 28-6 overall record on its way to a CAA regular season championship and a trip to the WNIT Sweet 16. 2022 First Team All-CAA honoree Keishana Washington leads the Dragons in scoring at 30.0 points per game. She has scored in double-figures in 38 straight games and her 1,625 career points are currently 22nd among active Division 1 players. Freshman Kylie Lavelle is also averaging in double figures at 20.0 points per contest. Her 31 points against La Salle are the most for a Drexel freshman in a regulation game in program history. Drexel is ranked seventh in the latest Mid Major Top 25. Drexel has won 50 consecutive games when leading at halftime, with the last setback being at Penn on December 20, 2019.
