BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (1-1, 0-0 MAC) dropped their contest against the undefeated James Madison Dukes (3-0, 0-0 Sun Belt), 97-62 on Saturday afternoon.
Heading into the game, James Madison was white hot as they scored over 100 points in each of their first two games of the season. The Bulls came into the game with a huge win over Patriot League preseason favorite Colgate on Monday evening. The Dukes shot over 50% and made 32 of their 41 free throws. The Bulls struggled offensively as they shot .32.1% and were just 4-for-22 from three-point range.
Buffalo's largest lead in the contest came off a Curtis Jones three-pointer at the 18:52 mark of the first half to give the Bulls a 3-2 lead. The lead, however, would last for just 30-seconds. James Madison would retake the lead and never look back as the Dukes led for over 39-minutes.
Both the Dukes and Bulls were far from perfect as there were 56 turnovers in the game. 30 of which were committed by the Bulls. James Madison outscored Buffalo 33-15 on points off of turnovers
Curtis Jones led the Bulls with 13 points as he was the only scorer to reach double figures. He also scored 13 of the 30 points that came from the UB starters. C. Jones went on to add a team-high six rebounds on the afternoon. Zid Powell had 4 of the team's 16 steals and added eight points.
The Bulls will hit the road for a four-game stretch starting on Tuesday. Buffalo will face UConn in Hartford, Conn. and will then travel to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands for this year's Paradise Jam. In their first game, the Bulls will face the Drake Bulldogs on Friday afternoon.
