BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo track and field team announced the signing of Tyler Fluharty on Friday morning. The program is excited about his national letter of intent as Fluharty will be competing for the Bulls cross country and track & field distance squad in starting in the 2022-23 campaign. He will be majoring in chemistry during his time at UB.
We are very excited to announce the signing of middle-distance standout Tyler Fluharty from Riverside High School in Beaver Falls, Pa. On the track as a junior in the Spring of 2021, he placed fourth in the Pennsylvania State 800-meter Championships and helped lead his team to the 4 x 400m state title. His time of 1:55.57 was a full 10-seconds faster than his sophomore time. This past fall in the 2021 cross country season, he demonstrated his strength and endurance where he placed second at the Pennsylvania State XC Championships in 16:39. Throughout the season he ran nearly 2-minutes faster on courses than one year ago. His potential is exciting, and coupled with his determination for success and winning, he is going to be a great addition to the UB Bulls program.
Academically, Fluharty is an exceptional student who will be majoring in Chemistry with career goals of working in the medical field developing cancer fighting drugs. UB stood out in the recruitment process for Ty due to our strong academics and the success of our men's middle and distance program under Coach Todd Witzleben.
"Ty's speed is one of his greatest strengths," stated Men's Distance Coach Todd Witzleben. "As he continues to develop, he will be a very strong force in the Mid-American Conference and NCAA. He has exactly what our program needs: determination, desire to win, and a lot of potential."
We are excited to welcome Ty to the Bulls family and see him competing in the Blue & White!
