BUFFALO, N.Y. – Cross Country and Track & Field Director and Head Coach Vicki Mitchell has been selected to serve as a mentor for the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Female Coaching Mentorship Program (FCMP). This is Mitchell's third year serving as a mentor for the program, as it's just the program's fourth year.
FCMP was established in 2018 by three experienced female coaches, Rhonda Riley, Angelina Ramos, and Janine Kuestner, with the goal of increasing representation, knowledge, and advancement of female coaches in cross country and track & field. The program aims to support climate change as well as depth of female coaching experience through pairing individuals with 1:1 year-round mentorship with a senior coach and adhering to set guidelines for successful consultations.
"This program gives the opportunity for women coaches to support each other in their careers," Mitchell said. "It is vital to our profession to share our knowledge and provide guidance to our younger coaches. We need to keep women in the coaching profession, and the FCMP provides an excellent platform to open doors, empower our peers, and pay it forward in our field."
The growth of the program has been exponential since its start in 2018. This year's program has over 100 mentees paired with veteran coaches.
