
Softball Sets Program Record, Places Six on Academic All-MAC Team

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball team set a new program record by placing six student-athletes on the Mid-American Conference Academic All-MAC team, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
A total of 116 student-athletes were named to this year's squad.
Seniors Jenna Richmond and Alicia Peters, juniors Alexis Matheney and Hannah Bardeen and sophomores Alexis Lucyshyn and Madelyn Hickingbottom all earned the honor for the first time in their careers.
Richmond is currently enrolled in graduate school for school counseling and maintained a 4.0 GPA. The Horseheads, NY native wrapped up her career in the blue and white by appearing in 52 games while earning 44 starts. She recorded a .173 batting average with a career-high 19 hits, three doubl3es, two home runs, 16 RBI and 10 runs scored.
A rehabilitation counseling major with a 3.613 GPA, Peters wrapped up her career appearing and starting in 52 games for the Bulls. The Chico, CA native recorded a .210 batting average to go with 34 hits, four doubles, eight home runs, 23 RBI and 21 runs scored while posting four multi-hit and six multi-RBI games on the season.
Matheney, an occupational science major with a 3.718 GPA, is coming off a solid junior campaign in which she was named second team All-MAC for the first time in her career after cementing her place in the middle of the Bulls lineup all season long. The Lancaster, OH native posted a .311 batting average to go along with 46 hits, seven doubles, 11 home runs, 36 RBI and 34 runs scored while recording a .595 slugging percentage, good for second-best on the team, and a .428 on base percentage. The junior also anchored the Bulls outfield, recorded a .976 fielding percentage.
A public health major with a 3.609 GPA, Bardeen appeared in 29 games and earned 12 starts at catcher in her junior campaign. The Amherst, NY native recorded eight hits, four doubles and two RBI on the year.
Lucyshyn, an exercise science major with a 3.455 GPA, is coming off a stellar sophomore campaign in which she received All-MAC First Team honors for the first time in her young career. The Calgary, Alberta native was one of four Bulls to start all 53 games for UB, recording a .245 batting average with 37 hits, two doubles, 10 home runs, 30 RBI and 20 runs scored while recording a .457 slugging percentage. Lucyshyn native was also a mainstay in the circle for the Bulls, compiling a 6-10 overall record in 27 appearances with a 5.81 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 97.2 innings pitched and also posted a .976 fielding percentage at first base.
Hickingbottom, who maintains a 3.884 GPA, also earned academic All-MAC honors for the first time in her career. The Glen Williams, Ontario native made 22 appearances in the circle with 10 starts as a sophomore, recording a 2-7 overall record with 34 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched, while also posting eight multi-strikeout and two complete games on the season.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. Student-athletes in their first year of competition are not eligible.
