BUFFALO, NY – Head men's basketball coach Jim Whitesell has announced the addition of Curtis Jones to the Buffalo program as he signed his national letter of intent. Jones comes to Western New York after playing last season at Indian Hill Community College.
Jones, a 6-5 guard from Minneapolis, MN, will still have four years of eligibility beginning next season due to a blanket waiver passed by the NJCAA in the fall, which ensured junior college athletes would not lose a year of eligibility in 2020-21 regardless of sport.
Jones played in 24 games this past season at Indian Hills, where he averaged 12.1 points per game as well as six boards and 5.5 assists per contest. He shot 41.4% from the floor, 38.7% from three-point range and 86.8% from the free throw line. He was a second-team All-Region selection by the Iowa Community College Athletic Association.
Four times last season Jones had 20 or more points in a game, including back-to-back 26-point performances against Ellsworth CC and Marshalltown CC. He had a career high 11 assists against Des Moines Area CC and a pair of double-digit rebound performances including 11 against Northeast CC.
Prior to joining Indian Hills, Jones played at Cretin-Derham Hall in St. Paul, MN where he led his program to a Section 4 and Class 4A title his senior year.
"Curtis bring great size for a point guard and very high IQ for the game to our program," said Whitesell. "He comes from a great junior college in Indian Hills, which has developed players like Dontay Caruthers and Justin Moss, and his high school in Minnesota was one of the top programs in the state so he knows how to win. Curtis is a great student academically and we can't wait for him to join us on campus."
Jones joins a recruiting class that includes Kuluel Madding, Zaakir Williamson, and George Washington transfer Maceo Jack.
