CLEVELAND, OH – Bowling Green's three-point shooting was too much for the Bulls to overcome as the University at Buffalo women's basketball team lost to the Falcons, 80-67, in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Friday morning at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
Bowling Green, the tournament's top seed, connected on 14 three-pointers and was able to hold the Bulls at bay. Buffalo struggled to get its offense going, shooting just 33 percent from the field and 6-of-22 from beyond the arc.
Dyaisha Fair and Cheyenne McEvans tied for team high honors in scoring with 18. Fair added nine rebounds, four assists and four steals, while McEvans had a career-best 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
Bowling Green led 19-15 after the first quarter, but used an 8-0 run at the start of the second to extend its lead to 12 points. Jessika Schiffer came off the bench and shot the Bulls right back into the game. The sophomore guard hit three straight three-pointers to quickly cut the deficit to 27-24. However, BG answered with a 7-0 run of its own to regain a double-digit advantage. The Bulls trailed, 34-26, at the half.
UB was able to cut the Falcons' lead to four points twice in the third quarter, but each time BG answered with a three-pointer. After leading by eight after the third quarter, Bowling Green was able to build its lead to double-digits for the entire fourth quarter.
The Bulls were dominant on the glass, outrebounding Bowling Green, 48-38. Six different UB players had at least five rebounds in the game.
"We got beat by a good team today," head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. "We didn't make shots that were wide open and that's unfortunate because that's not our story, that's not how we play."
It was the Bulls' sixth appearance in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament in the last seven years.
