BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo Division of Athletics is hosting a multi-day event for National Girls and Women in Sports Day, beginning on Monday February 1st and concluding on Wednesday February 3rd.
What is National Women and Girls in Sports Day?
February 3, 2021 marks the 35th Annual Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), which is a celebration that serves to inspire girls and women to play and be active while also realizing their full power and potential. The day recognizes achievements of female athletes, coaches, and leaders, and acknowledges the power of sports as a way for females to unlock potential in various ways. You can find more information on the history and ways to celebrate NGWSD by visiting the Women's Sports Foundation website here.
Events Overview:
The three-day celebration will begin with a video made by team representatives from UB's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) describing what they have learned through sports and the advice they have for future student-athletes.
The main event is a Zoom panel session on Tuesday, February 2nd from 6:30-8:00pm. The theme of the national event is "Lead Her Forward" and the panel will be a collaborative effort with UB alumni to provide a meaningful and valuable evening of connection and mentorship with our current student-athletes.
The panelists include:
"I certainly have to give credit to our planning committee, student-athletes, Audubon Women's Medical Associates, Coach Jack and our UB alumni for committing their time and sharing their experiences during our three-day event," said D'Ann Keller, Senior Associate Athletics Director/SWA. "UB's celebration of this national event is our way of recognizing outstanding individuals and organizations committed to creating opportunities for girls and women through sport and those that advocate for inclusion and equality. Let's continue to use our voices for change and fuel the power of greatness in others."
Audubon Women's Medical Associates is the largest private OB/GYN group in Buffalo's Northtowns and a proud supporter of UB athletics. For more information go to www.audubonwomens.com.
