
Bulls Open New Year at Miami (OH)

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team travels to Oxford, Ohio for a New Year's Day clash with the Miami (OH) RedHawks at Millett Hall at 1pm. Since the 1971-72 season, when game dates were easily accessible, this will be just the third time Buffalo plays on Jan. 1 and the first time since the 2013-14 season when they defeated Roberts Wesleyan 93-58.
The game will be streamed on ESPN3 with Randy Hollowell (play-by-play) and Carol Smith (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on AM 1400 or on the Varsity Network with Matt Mattia on the call.
Buffalo is 7-4 overall and 1-0 in league play after defeating Central Michigan 92-75 in its Mid-American Conference opener at Alumni Arena on Wednesday. Junior guard Dominique Camp tied the program's single-game record with 16 assists in the win. Summer Hemphill led all scorers, tying a career-high with 28 points to go with seven rebounds. Dyaisha Fair scored 26 points to go with four rebounds, two assists and four steals. Georgia Woolley reached double figures for the sixth straight game with 14 points and Adebola Adeyeye also scored in double figures with 10 points and six rebounds.
Fair leads the Bulls and ranks eighth in the nation in scoring at 21.7 points per game. Hemphill is almost averaging a double-double with 15.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while Woolley has scored in double figures in six straight games and is averaging 10.0 points per game. The Bulls are ranked 59th in the latest NET rankings, the highest of any MAC schools. They are also ranked 18th in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll.
Miami (OH) enters Saturday's contest with a 4-5 overall record. It will be the first game of MAC play for the RedHawks after their opener against Ohio was postponed due to Covid-19 protocols. The RedHawks are led offensively by Peyton Scott who is averaging 19.3 points and 4.3 assists per game. Ivy Wolf (11.6 ppg, 2.4 apg) is also averaging in double figures. The RedHawks have been solid on the glass to start the season, ranking first in the MAC in offensive rebounds (15.9), second in rebounding margin (5.4) and fifth in total rebounding (40.3).
Up next, Buffalo will continue its road swing at Bowling Green on Wednesday, January 5. Tipoff at the Stroh Center is set for 7pm.
