Bulls Drop High-Scoring Affair to Bowling Green, 56-44

Big plays helped Bowling Green jump out to a 28-10 lead at the half before the Bulls began to rally. Buffalo scored two third-quarter touchdowns to get right back in the game. Dylan McDuffie scored on a 2-yard touchdown run followed by a Matt Myers 3-yard run to cut the BG lead to 28-23 with 3:09 left in the third quarter.
Myers was pressed into action when starting quarterback Kyle Vantrease was injured late in the first half.
From there, the teams traded touchdowns. Bowling Green scored on a 30-yard pass play to retake a 35-23 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Bulls responded with a 76-yard scoring drive, capped by a 13-yard touchdown run by McDuffie, his second of the game, to cut the lead to 35-30.
McDuffie had the best game of his career, rushing for 166 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries – all career highs.
On the first play of Bowling Green's ensuing possession, the Falcons scored on a 77-yard run to extend their lead to 42-30. The Bulls answered right back on a 10-yard Myers' touchdown run to cut the lead to 42-37 with 6:54 left.
The Bulls defense got the stop they needed and regained possession with 4:47 left. However, they couldn't move the ball and turned it over on downs deep in their own territory. Bowling Green capitalized with another touchdown to take 49-37 lead.
The Bulls made one final push, quickly driving down the field and scoring on a Myers to Dominic Johnson 4-yard touchdown pass, with just under one minute to play, to make it a five-point game once again. But it wasn't enough as the Falcons held on for the victory.
Myers finished the game 12-of-24 for 239 yards and a touchdown and rushed for two scores. It was his most extensive action since he started at Miami (OH) on Sept. 28, 2019.
The Bulls tied a program record by running 99 plays and racked up 499 yards of total offense.
Johnson had a career-best 96 yards receiving on four catches. Quian Williams had 87 yards receiving on five catches. Freshman running back Mike Washington scored on a 14-yard run for his first career touchdown.
Linebacker James Patterson led the defense with seven tackles, two TFLs and 1.5 sacks. Defensive end C.J. Bazile had five tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
The Bulls are back in action on Tuesday, November 9 at Miami (OH).
