BUFFALO, NY – The Walter Camp Football Foundation released its All-America Team on Thursday and University at Buffalo running back Jaret Patterson was named to the second team.
Patterson has now been named an All-American by all five organizations recognized by the NCAA – the Associated Press (AP), American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Sporting News and the Walter Camp Football Foundation (WCFF). Khalil Mack was the only other UB player named an All-American by all five organizations.
Patterson posted historic numbers in a shortened season. The junior running back leads the nation in rushing, averaging 178.7 yards per game. He is also tied for third in the nation in rushing touchdowns with 19 in only six games.
Patterson rushed for 1,025 yards over the first five games of the season, tying the FBS record for earliest game to reach 1,000 yards in a season. His statement game came against Kent State on Nov. 28 when he rushed for 409 yards and eight touchdowns. The 409 yards were the second most ever in an FBS game and the eight touchdowns tied the FBS record for a single game.
For his efforts, he became the first player in program history to win the prestigious Vern Smith Leadership Award, given annually to the Mid-American Conference's top player. He was also named the MAC Offensive Player of the Year.
The Bulls finished the 2020 season with a record of 6-1 and defeated Marshall to win the Camellia Bowl.
