
Six Bulls Receive Cross Country Academic All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2020 Men's and Women's Cross Country Academic All-MAC teams Wednesday morning. A total of six Bulls, five men and one woman, received the honor to represent the University at Buffalo.
"Our student-athletes come to the University at Buffalo for the outstanding academic reputation," stated Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "We emphasize an atmosphere of balance between strong academic performance and strong athletic performance. We take pride in the achievements of our student-athletes."
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.200 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport or in the MAC Championships. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible for this honor in their first semester at UB.
Men's Team
Ryan Buzby, Junior, 3.610, Biology (Grand Island, N.Y.)
Buzby competed in both the Tommy Evans Invitational and the MAC Championships where he finished seventh and 30th, respectively.
Thomas Flannery, Senior, 3.373, Business Administration (Orchard Park, N.Y.)
Flannery saw action at the MAC Championship. He finished in 25:11.6 for 22nd place.
Scott Loforte, Junior, 3.938, Civil Engineering (Canandaigua, N.Y.)
The junior runner competed in both races for the 2020 season. He finished 2nd at the Tommy Evans Invitational and 11th at the MAC Championships.
Armani Merlino, Sophomore, 3.932, Computer Science (Lancaster, N.Y.)
Merlino had a strong sophomore season as he finished third at the Tommy Evans Invitational and 14th at the MAC Championships.
Christopher Nowak, Senior, 3.813, Business Administration (Orchard Park, N.Y.)
Nowak performed at both races in the 2020 season. He claimed 12th place at the Tommy Evans Invitational and 28th at the MAC Championships.
Women's Team
Riley Jones, Junior, 3.389, Environmental Sciences (Holland, N.Y.)
Jones was the only runner from the women's team to compete in both races this season. She finished ninth at the Tommy Evans Invitational and 48th at the MAC Championships.
