The University at Buffalo football team opened the 1959 campaign with a 28-14 win at Temple. The Bulls were coming off a stellar season in 1958 in which they finished 8-1 and won the Lambert Cup awarded to the supreme "Eastern Small College."
Willie Evans, UB's standout running back, scored the Bulls first touchdown of the season, on a short run just three minutes into the game.
Bill Brogan did it all for the Bulls' second touchdown. A two-way player, Brogan intercepted a pass and returned it to the Temple 21-yard line. A short time later, Brogan scored on an eight-yard touchdown run.
Buffalo iced the game with a long scoring drive in the fourth quarter. The Bulls drove 73 yards on eight plays, capped by a one-yard quarterback sneak by Gord Bukaty.
The Bulls had another successful campaign in 1959, finishing the season 8-1. Their lone loss was a 26-21 defeat at Bucknell.
