BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team fell to Toledo 78-62 on Alumni Day at Alumni Arena on Saturday. With the loss the Bulls fall to 13-8 on the year, 4-6 in league play.
The Bulls have now lost three straight games for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
Buffalo was led by freshman Dyaisha Fair who scored 20 points to go with six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Also in double figures were Hanna Hall, who scored 11 points, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc, to go with five assists and Adebola Adeyeye who recorded 10 points, five rebounds and a block.
After a slow start Buffalo would take a 10-6 lead on back-to-back three's from Hall but the Rockets would answer with a 7-0 run to take a 13-10 lead and force a UB timeout at the 4:30 mark. A mini 4-0 run by UB would put the Bulls up 14-13 but Toledo closed the quarter on a 5-2 run to take an 18-16 lead after one quarter of play.
Toledo would open the second quarter on a 6-2 run to take an early 24-18 lead before the Bulls used a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 26-24 at the 6:05 mark, but from there the Rockets closed the first half on a 9-3 run, including a three by Sophia Wiard from just inside halfcourt at the buzzer, to give Toledo a 35-27 lead at the break.
Toledo shot an efficient 53.8% from the floor in the opening half, doubling up Buffalo in the paint 20-10, while the Bulls shot 31.3% from the field and just 2-of-9 from beyond the arc.
The two teams would trade runs to begin the second half as Buffalo opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run, sparked by back-to-back buckets from Adeyeye, in the opening two minutes to cut the Rockets lead to two, but Toledo responded with a 5-0 run to go back up 40-33 at the 7:12 mark and they would maintain a 44-37 lead at the media timeout. Toledo broke the game open using a 13-3 run to take a 57-40 lead at the 1:26 mark before Hall ended a three plus UB scoring drought with a spot up three, but the Rockets answered with back-to-back triples to take a 63-45 lead at the end of the third.
The Bulls showed some fight to start the fourth quarter as they opened on a 5-0 run, sparked by a Fair triple, to cut the lead to 13 but that would be as close as they would get as Toledo shot 56% from the floor and 50% from behind the arc in the final 10 minutes to secure the victory.
The Bulls head back on the road on Wednesday, February 12, as they travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan to take on Western Michigan at 7pm.
