SPARTANBURG, SC – A seventh inning Bulls rally came up short as the University at Buffalo softball team fell to Maryland Eastern Shore 5-4 on Saturday.
Starting pitcher Alexis Lucyshyn helped her cause in the top of the second as she blasted her first career home run over the wall in left center field to give the Bulls an early 1-0 lead.
Buffalo would add to the lead in the fourth as Olivia Kincanon smacked a triple to right and Jenna Richmond followed with an RBI single up the middle to plate Kincannon and give UB a 2-0 lead.
The Hawks answered in the bottom of the inning as Alona Robillard hit a two-run home run to center field to tie the game at two, before adding three unearned runs on a pair of UB errors and a two-RBI double to go take a 5-2 lead.
Buffalo would cut into the lead in the top of the sixth as Kincanon drilled a solo home run to right center field to pull UB within two. The Bulls then loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh and Richmond recorded her second RBI single of the day to cut the lead to 5-4 but the rally would end there as the Bulls left the bases loaded to end the game.
Richmond led the Bulls at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBI on the day while Kincanon and Jenelle Martinez recorded two hits each. Lucyshyn gave up five runs, two earned, while striking out four in four innings of work. Madelyn Hickinbogtom pitched two innings of scoreless relief.
