Men’s Tennis Opens Fall Campaign At Silverado Invitational

NAPA VALLEY, CA – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team began their fall season this past weekend as four Bulls travelled to the Silverado Invitational for doubles and singles action. The Bulls played across three days in the unbracketed event.
Both doubles teams went 2-1 over the weekend as senior Vilhelm Fridell and junior Valdemar Holm won 8-4 against Andre Ilagan and Lucas Labrunie of Hawaii, 8-4, while also beating Milos Dabic and Tom Ciszewski of UNLV, 8-2.
The other doubles squad of senior Hao Sheng Koay and junior Matthew Johnson also won a pair of matches with an 8-2 win over their opponents from Hawaii and scored an 8-6 victory over Daniel Siddall and Boriss Kandem from Tulsa.
In singles action, all four players picked up at least one victory, led by Fridell, who went a perfect 3-0 on the weekend, winning all of his matches in straight sets. In his match against Tulsa's Kandem, Fridell won 6-2, 6-3, while he beat Mitch Johnson of San Francisco, 6-1, 6-3. Fridell capped it off by defeating Ciszewski of UNLV, 6-2, 6-2.
Holm won two of his three matches on the weekend as he defeated Siddall from Tulsa, 6-2, 6-3, and David Woodland from San Francisco, 6-2, 6-3. Both Koay and Johnson also picked up wins on the weekend as Koay defeated Dabic from UNLV, 6-2, 6-3 and Johnson Johan Garpered of San Francisco, 6-3, 7-5.
The Bulls will continue action this upcoming weekend when they head to Princeton for the Farnsworth Ivy-Plus.
