9/10/2019 1:55:00β―PM | Cross Country
BUFFALO, NY β The University at Buffalo cross country teams will be back in action on Friday morning after a week off as they host the UB Stampede Invitational. The men's 8k race will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by the women's 6k race at 11:45 a.m. at the Audubon Golf Course.
The men's and women's fields will consist of five teams as Canisius, St. Bonaventure, McMaster and Waterloo will travel to Buffalo for the annual meet. There will be a total of 111 runners, 62 for the men's race and 49 for the women's race that will take on the Audubon Golf Course.
The UB men will have 18 runners compete in the home race including four freshmen and one sophomore that will compete in their first UB Stampede Invitational. Two weeks after winning the Mel Brodt Collegiate opener in Bowling Green while sweeping the top-three positions, the men's team look to keep this season rolling in the right direction. Leading the charge will be seniors Leon Atkins, Benjamin Cardamone, Caleb Covell, William Hilbert and Matthew Mercer who know the course well. At the 2018 UB Stampede Invitational, Caleb Covell finished in first place as William Hilbert crossed the line in fourth.
The UB women will have 12 of their 15 runners compete in the home race as the new additions look to take on their 6k race. After winning the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener in Bowling Green two weeks ago, this young veteran group looks to improve and continue their early success this season. Freshman Alexia Hecico has her sights on another victory after taking home first place in Bowling Green. Maxine Dupuis, Dana Lynch and Meghan LaTuso look to crack the top-10 in back-to-back races this season.
Both teams look to improve their placement this Friday as the men's team finished second out of seven, while the women's team finished sixth out of nine a year ago.
