
10 Bulls Receive Cross Country Academic All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2019 Men's and Women's Cross Country Academic All-MAC teams Thursday morning. A total of 10 Bulls, six men and four women, received the honor to represent the University at Buffalo.
"Our student-athletes come to the University at Buffalo for the outstanding academic reputation," stated Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "We emphasize an atmosphere of balance between strong academic performance and strong athletic performance. We take pride in the achievements of our student-athletes."
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.200 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport or in the MAC Championships.
Men's Team
The UB men's six student-athletes is the third most in the conference behind Eastern Michigan and Miami (OH).
Ryan Buzby, Buffalo, Sophomore, 3.705, Biology (Grand Island, NY)
Buzby had a career year as he finished in the top-10 twice this season, his best finish coming at the Canisius Alumni Challenge where he places eighth with a personal-best time of 25:50.3.
Caleb Covell, Buffalo, R-Junior, 3.225, Mechanical Engineering (Rochester, NY)
R-Junior runner Caleb Covell had the best season of his career, leading the way for the Bulls in every race he competed in this year. Covell, a four-time MAC Runner of The Week, placed second at the Mid-American Conference Championships in DeKalb, Ill., earning him First Team All-MAC honors for the second time in his career.
Thomas Flannery, Buffalo, Junior, 3.597, Business Administration (Orchard Park, NY)
Flannery saw action in five races this season, including a 72nd finish in the NCAA Northeast Regionals at the University at Buffalo in a time of 30:12.9.
Patrick Hazlitt, Buffalo, Junior, 3.439, Business Administration (Hector, NY)
Hazlitt competed in four races for the Bulls this season, with his best 8k time coming at the UB Stampede Invite where he finished in 26:13.1 for 11th place.
Scott Loforte, Buffalo, Sophomore, 4.000, Civil Engineering (Canandaigua, NY)
Sophomore runner Scott Loforte competed in seven of the eight races this season where he finished with a career-best time of 24:59.9 at the Paul Short Invite.
Christopher Nowak, Buffalo, Junior, 3.714, Business Administration (Orchard Park, NY)
Nowak saw action in five events for Buffalo this season, competing in both the MAC Championships and the NCAA Northeast Regionals. He earned his best MAC Championship finish this season as he finished in 25th place.
Women's Team
Rachel Barich, Buffalo, Senior, 3.599, Nutritional Science (Beamsville, Ontario)
The senior runner saw action in three races this season, including the MAC Championships and the NCAA Northeast Regionals where she finished in a time of 23:04.3.
Riley Jones, Buffalo, Sophomore, 3.389, Biochemistry (Holland, NY)
Competing in seven of the eight races, Jones had a career year as she had her career-best 6k time at the NCAA Northeast Regionals where she finished in 21:18.9.
Alanna Kramer, Buffalo, Junior, 3.304, Business Administration & Finance (East Amherst, NY)
The junior runner competed in five races this season as she had her best UB Stampede Invite as she finished in a time of 24:26.9, good for 18th place.
Meghan LaTuso, Buffalo, Senior, 3.485, Communication (Poughquag, NY)
LaTuso competed in six events for Buffalo this season, including the MAC Championships where she collected an 85th place finish with a time of 21:12.6. Her best finish was at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Invite where LaTuso clocked in a time of 19:00.7, good for eighth place.
