BUFFALO, NY – For the fifth straight week, the University at Buffalo men's basketball team has climbed up in the Associated Press Top 25 poll as the Bulls checked in at a program-best 14th in the country. Following the 80-62 win at St. Bonaventure on Saturday, the Bulls also rose to 15th in the USA Today Coaches' Poll.
Buffalo, who is currently just one of nine remaining undefeated teams in the nation, moved up three spots in the latest AP Rankings, receiving votes from all but one pollster. One voter had Buffalo as high as fifth in his Top 25, while the majority had the Bulls slotted between 12th and 17th. The Bulls received 664 votes in the latest poll as they are now ahead of Power 5 schools such as Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Kentucky.
The Bulls become just the fifth different MAC team to be ranked for five or more consecutive weeks and the first to do so since Western Michigan during the 1975-76 season. The last Big 4 program to be ranked for five or more weeks was St. Bonaventure during the 1970-71 season.
Buffalo received 306 votes in the latest USA Today Coaches' Poll, moving up three spots to 15th. The Bulls are just ahead of defending national champion, Villanova.
Kansas, one of the other nine undefeated teams in the nation, moved to first in both the AP poll and the USA Today Coaches' Poll. In addition to Kansas and Buffalo, the other undefeated teams are Michigan, Nevada, Virginia, Texas Tech, Houston, Furman, and St. John's.
The Bulls currently sit at 12th in the latest NET rankings released today by the NCAA, the evaluation tool used by the men's basketball selection committee.
Buffalo will return home for its final non-conference game in Alumni Arena on Saturday afternoon when the Bulls welcome in Southern Illinois at 2pm.
