Bulls End Regular Season With 5-2 Win At Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, OH - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team ended the regular season on Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win at Bowling Green. The win improves UB to 13-7 on the season as Buffalo concludes Mid-American Conference play with a 5-3 record, good for a fourth place tie. However, UB will be the five-seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament due to a head-to-head loss to Akron.
The Falcons got out to the early lead with wins at first and second doubles. The Bulls were able to pick up a win at third doubles as freshman Chantal Martinez Blanco and junior Margarita Kotok, who missed the last five matches due to injury, won easily, 6-0.
UB dominated in singles play, winning five of the six matches that were contested. Bowling Green's only victory came at first singles. Martinez Blanco scored a 7-6 (8), 7-5 win at second singles and fellow freshman Mercedes Losada Rubio won at third singles, 6-2, 6-3.
Junior Laura Holterbosch won 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles and freshman Sanjana Sudhir won at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Christine Haraldson won her match at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-1.
"Anytime you can win on the road in this league it is a good victory," said head coach Kristen Maines. "Now we will get a good week of practice in and turn our attention to the conference tournament."
UB will begin Mid-American Conference Tournament play on Friday afternoon as the fifth seeded Bulls will face #4 Akron at 10:00 am. The tournament will take place at Miami (OH). The other quarterfinal match on Friday will have #3 Western Michigan vs. #6 Toledo. Ball State is the overall number one seed in the tournament and Miami (OH) is the number two seed.
