Bulls Take Down Northern Illinois, 5-2

TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team won their second straight MAC contest on Friday afternoon as the Bulls defeated Northern Illinois, 5-2. The match was played in Toledo, OH. With the win, UB improves to 12-6 and 4-2 in conference play.
The Bulls claimed the early doubles point picking up a victory first a third doubles as Laura Holterbosch and Christine Haraldson came away with an easy 6-1 win. The Bulls then clinched the point with a win at first doubles as Tanja Stojanovska and Dayana Agasieva, the reigning MAC Doubles Team of the Week, won 6-3.
UB took four of the six matches in singles play beginning with a win at fourth singles from Holterbosch, who took her contest, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Sanjana Sudhir won at fifth singles 6-0, 6-1 to give the Bulls the 3-0 lead in the match and then Losada Rubio, who moved up to second singles, clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Martinez Blanco continued the strong singles play for Buffalo as she scored a 6-3, 6-0 win at third singles. NIU won in straight sets at six and came away with a hard-fought win at one, but the Bulls took the match 5-2.
"I was very pleased with the effort we got across the board today against a solid Northern Illinois team," said head coach Kristen Maines. "We set the tone in doubles and we let that carry us in singles play. We know we have a quick turnaround before another important match tomorrow."
The Bulls will begin the trek back East, but will make a stop in Akron, OH for a match tomorrow against the Zips. Match time is set for 11:30 am.
