Bulls Fall To Western Michigan For First Home Loss

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team was defeated at home for the first time this season on Friday afternoon as the Bulls lost to Western Michigan, 5-2. The loss drops UB to 10-5 on the year and 2-1 in MAC play.
Western Michigan got off to a quick start in doubles play with wins at second and third doubles to claim the first point of the match.
In singles, Buffalo was able to secure a pair of wins as freshman Mercedes Losada Rubio claimed a straight-set win at fourth singles, 6-3, 6-3. UB also got a win at first singles as sophomore Tanja Stojanovska, the reigning MAC Player of the Week, overcame a first set loss to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The Broncos won the four other matches in straight sets.
"Credit Western Michigan today," said head coach Kristen Maines. "They came ready to play from the first point in doubles and we didn't respond. I am proud of Mer for taking care of business in singles and was happy to see Tanja come back and win, but as a team we need to do a better job as we are facing some very tough competition these next few weeks."
The Bulls will head to Miami (OH) on Friday afternoon at 1pm before returning home to host Ball State next Sunday, April 10.
