MINNEAPOLIS, MN – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team concluded their two-match swing in the Twin Cities with a 6-1 loss to Iowa State of the Big 12 on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls are now 6-4 on the year. The win for Iowa State was its ninth straight this year.
The Cyclones took the doubles point with victories at second and third doubles, while first doubles went unfinished.
In singles play, sophomore Tanja Stojanovska picked up a three-set victory at first singles as she defeated Samantha Budai, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. The Bulls also forced three-set matches at five and six as junior Laura Holterbosch won the first set at five, while freshman Sanjana Sudhir fought off a first-set loss at six and won the second set 6-1 before falling in the third set.
"I saw a high competition level again today by our girls and was happy for Tanja to be able to come away with a victory," said head coach Kristen Maines. "I think this weekend was a great indication on what our strengths are as a team, but also what some of our weaknesses are that we need to work on before MAC play."
The Bulls will play their next two matches in Puerto Rico on their Spring Break trip beginning with Navy on March 16.
