
Bulls Open MAC Play With Dominating 6-1 Win Over Toledo

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opened Mid-American Conference play on Friday afternoon with a huge 6-1 win over Toledo at the Miller Tennis Center. The victory improved the Bulls to 9-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
The Bulls got out to the early lead with an impressive display during doubles. Sophomore Tanja Stojanovska and Dayana Agasieva picked up a 6-2 win at first doubles and junior Margarita Kotok and freshman Chantal Martinez Blanco won at second doubles by an identical 6-2 score. Third doubles was tied at 5-5 when play was halted due to the Bulls clinching the point.
In singles, Buffalo won five of the six matches as Stojanovska won 6-2, 6-1 at first singles and Kotok won 6-3, 6-3 at third singles. Junior Laura Holterbosch won 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 at fourth singles, while freshman Mercedes Losada Rubio overcame a first set loss to win 5-7, 7-5, 10-4 at fifth singles. Classmate Sanjana Sudhir scored a big 6-2, 6-0 win at sixth singles.
"I was very please today as we competed well from the very first point," said head coach Kristen Maines. "I don't think we could have asked for a better start to conference play, but the important thing now is to build on this momentum Sunday."
The Bulls will travel to Eastern Michigan on Sunday as they face the Eagles at 1:00 pm.
