CONWAY, SC – The University at Buffalo softball team lost a pair of games on Saturday falling to Furman 9-5 and Coastal Carolina 9-4.

The Bulls got on the board first against Furman as they scored a run on a fielder's choice in the top of the third inning, which scored junior Ashton Earnhardt. Furman opened the game up though by scoring two in the bottom of the third and five runs in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead.

UB responded with four runs in the top of the fifth as freshman Katie Weimer continued her offensive tear as she tripled in a pair of runs with two outs. Following the three-bagger, fellow freshman Catrell Robertson went deep to center field, scoring two more. However, Furman added two more in the bottom of the fifth and took the game 9-5.

Freshman Taylor Light picked up the loss as the Bulls registered eight hits, five of those coming from Weimer or Robertson.

In the second game, UB fell to host Coastal Carolina, 9-4. An Ashton Earnhardt single in the second and a Weimer home run in the third put UB up 2-0, but Coastal had four-run innings in the third and fourth.

Junior Savanna Norcio hit a two run shot in the top of the fifth, but could not make comeback. Weimer went 6-for-7 in the two games today, while Norcio also had a two-hit game.

"We played our hearts out tonight. We were patient in the box and we earned five walks and hit two home runs. We put ourselves in positions to win, but had too many runner left on base," said head coach Trena Peel. "Once we get those timely hits and our pitchers can shutdown someone's offense we will start our own winning streak. I have a team full of fighters and we are all going to keep grinding it out together."

The Bulls conclude play tomorrow at 10:00am vs. Memphis.
