Bulls Dominate Purple Eagles, 7-0

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's tennis team picked up its second sweep of the weekend on Saturday as the Bulls defeated Niagara 7-0 to improve to 4-0 on the year.
In doubles action, UB got a victory from Laura Holterbosch and Christine Haraldson at third doubles, 6-1 and then almost simultaneously picked up wins at one and two. Tanja Stojanovska and Chantal Martinez Blanco won 6-3 at first doubles and Dayana Agasieva and Margarita Kotok won at second doubles, 6-2.
In singles play, freshman Mercedes Losada Rubio blanked her opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles and then Stojanovska won at second singles, 6-0, 6-1. Holterbosch clinched the match for the Bulls with a 6-1, 6-2 win at third singles and Kotok won 6-2, 6-1 at fourth singles. Martinez Blanco, who played at first singles this afternoon, won her match 6-1, 6-1 and freshman Sanjana Sudhir clinched the sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win at fifth singles. Out of the six singles matches, all were sweeps, and in none of the sets did any UB player give up more than two games.
"I was really proud of our effort today up and down the lineup," said head coach Kristen Maines. "Even though we won yesterday, I wasn't totally pleased with the performance, but we challenged them this afternoon and everyone really stepped up."
With the three-match homestand complete, the Bulls will go on the road next weekend for a pair of tough matches. UB will head to West Virginia on Friday at 10:00 am and then it will face Pittsburgh on Saturday morning.
