Women's Cross Country Team Impresses At Iona Meet Of Champions

BRONX, NY - The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's cross country team had a very strong showing on Saturday morning at the 21st Annual Dr. John "Paddy" Doyle / Iona College Meet of Champions at Cortlandt Park as they finished in fourth place out of 11 competing teams.
On a very hot and humid day in the Bronx, freshman Chardae Henry was able to pace the Bulls for the second straight week as she raced to a 16th place finish in 23:06.2. Junior Amy Shaw had an impressive showing for the Bulls as she took home 18th place in a season-best time of 23:09.7 while Corinne Birchard took home 21st place in 23:16.6.
Freshman Rachel Barich finished strong, taking home 26th place in 23:26.5 while junior Melinda Wheeler finished in 32nd place in 23:33.9. Freshman Brittany Fuller and sophomore Morgan Mahoney took home 41st and 51st place finishes, respectively.
The Bulls earned 113 points as they edged out southeast regional ranked Richmond by over 40 points. UB also finished just behind a pair of nationally ranked opponents, Princeton and Wisconsin, as well as the defending NCAA Division III National Champions, Johns Hopkins.
The Bulls will return to action on Friday, October 2 as they travel to Bethlehem, PA for the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational.
