
Kowaliuk And Gilbert Announced to Canadian Junior National Team Selection Camp

BUFFALO, NY - After holding three regional identification camps in Cloverdale, British Columbia (May 22-24), Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (May 29-31) and Brampton, Ontario (June 12-14), the Junior Women's National Team coaching staff has extended invitations to 28 athletes to compete for a spot on the 2015 Canadian team and amongst that list of 28 is Makayla Kowaliuk, who just finished her first season with the UB softball team and incoming freshman Courtney Gilbert. The final Selection Camp will take place from June 27-30 in Cloverdale, British Columbia.
Kowaliuk played in 31 games for the Bulls as a freshman as she hit .255 with three doubles and nine runs batted in. She had a three RBI game against Mercer and also drove in two runs earlier in the season against Kennesaw St. She also drove in a pair of runs against eventual MAC Champion, Ball State.
Gilbert, who will be coming to the Bulls from Delhi, Ontario, was named the Senior Female Athlete of the Year by the Delhi District Secondary School. She has two provincial gold medals to her credit, as well as a fifth place finish at Canadian Nationals.
The final roster will be named following the Selection Camp and the team will compete in the Futures Gold division of the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship from July 6-12 in Surrey, British Columbia. Players will then return home before regrouping for a training camp from July 30 to August 5 in Brampton, Ontario prior to travelling to Oklahoma City, OK to compete at the XI WBSC Junior Women's World Championship, which is scheduled to take place from August 9-15.
