BUFFALO, NY – Senior Alexis Curtiss became just the second player in school history named the NFCA Mideast All-Region First Team on Thursday morning, the association announced. Curtiss was selected in the utility spot as she played multiple positions for the Bulls this season.
Curtiss, who was named to the All-MAC First Team for the second time in her career as well as an Academic All-District selection, had the best season of her career in 2015 as she led the Bulls with a .429 batting average, good for second in the Mid-American Conference. Curtiss leads the MAC with 22 doubles on the season, good for top five nationally in doubles per game. Curtiss set single-season school record for hits (72) and doubles (22), while also setting the career school records in both categories, breaking the all-time hits record in her final at bat on Sunday afternoon. Curtis played in all 50 games for the Bulls this season, seeing time behind the plate, at third base and at second base. She recorded at least one hit in 38 of 50 games this season and ended the year with at least one hit in 14 of the final 15 games of the year.
"Alexis was outstanding for us all season and she has earned ever accolade that she has received so far," said head coach Trena Peel. "Alexis has done it both on the field and in the classroom and she is type of player that you want all of your student-athletes to emulate."
Curtiss becomes the first All-Region First Team selection since Breanne Nasti in 2004, who was also named to the team in 2002. With her first-team selection, Curtiss is now eligible for the NFCA All-American Team, which will be announced on May 27.
