Bulls Drop A Pair Of Games At Miami (OH)

OXFORD, OH - The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, softball team dropped a pair of Mid-American Conference games at Miami (OH) on Friday afternoon, dropping the opener, 6-0, and falling in the second game, 9-8.

The host RedHawks used a five-run first inning, but UB was able to keep Miami off the board until the fifth when it scored one more run. UB scattered just three hits over the seven innings. Senior Hayley Barrow picked up the loss as she allowed five runs in 0.2 innings pitched, while freshman Charlotte Miller allowed just three hits over the final 5.1 innings.

In the second game, the two teams combined for 17 runs, including eight in the first inning. UB scored three runs in the top of the first as Barrow hit a three-run home run to center field. Miami (OH) scored five in the bottom of the first though to take a 5-3 lead.

The RedHawks scored two more in the bottom of the fourth before UB got back on the board in the top of the fifth inning as junior Lauren Gambone hit a one-out single up the middle to score sophomore Savanna Norcio. Miami scored single runs in the fifth and the sixth to take a 9-4 lead, but the Bulls nearly came back in the seventh.

The Bulls put two runners on with two outs in the seventh, when senior Alexis Curtiss doubled to center field, scoring a pair of runs. A single from freshman Danielle Lallos scored Curtiss and fellow freshman Sarah Edwards doubled down the right field line, scoring Lallos with the eighth run of the game. Despite a runner on second, a ground out to the pitcher ended the game.

Redshirt sophomore Bobbi Langlois allowed eight runs in 5.0 innings, while Curtiss and Gambone both had multi-hit games for UB.

The Bulls will remain on the road tomorrow evening when they face Ball State in a doubleheader beginning at 5pm. The games will take place in Oxford, OH.
