
Bulls Drops Twin Bill At Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, MI – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, softball team dropped a pair of MAC games on Friday at Eastern Michigan, falling 15-7 in the opener and 5-2 in the second game.
The opener saw the two teams combine for 22 runs and 27 hits in just five innings of action as the host Eagles won the game 15-7. UB scored three in the top of the first as senior Alexis Curtiss doubled to left field to open the game. Following a walk to sophomore Savanna Norcio, senior Hayley Barrow drove in everybody with a three-run home run to left field. However, EMU scored three in the bottom of the first inning and added two in the second and seven in the third to take a 12-3 lead.
The Bulls answered with two in the top of the fourth as Curtiss hit a one-out home run and then junior Lauren Gambone singled to right field, driving in Norcio. UB added two more in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Curtiss and a fielder's choice from Norcio to pull within 12-7, but a three-run double in the bottom of the fifth gave EMU an eight-run lead, which ended the contest.
Freshman Charlotte Miller picked the up the loss as she went 2.2 innings and allowed 13 hits and 11 runs. Freshman Madison Vaught came on and pitched two innings in relief. UB had nine hits, including three from Curtiss, who drove in two runs. Barrow picked up three runs batted in on the home run.
In game two, Eastern Michigan scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning against starter Bobbi Langlois, but then the redshirt junior was able to put up zeros until the fifth inning. UB got on the board in the top of the fourth as Gambone homered to center field to pull UB within one.
The Bulls went on to tie the game up in the top of the fifth on back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning from freshman Leandra Jew, who was driven in by Curtiss. The game didn't remain tied long though as EMU scored three in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of home runs.
Langlois picked up the loss as she allowed five runs, but just two of those were earned as she struck out two and walked none. The Bulls outhit Eastern Michigan, 7-6, but committed three errors in the field. Gambone went 2-for-3 from the plate in the game, while five other players also recorded hits.
UB remains on the road tomorrow when they face Central Michigan at 2:00 pm.
