AKRON, OH – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, softball team was shut out at Akron on Sunday afternoon, 9-0. The game lasted just five innings. UB was scheduled to play these games at home, but had to move to Akron due to unplayable field conditions.
The Zips put up three spots in both the first and second innings, while adding one run in the third and two more in the fifth. Akron recorded 14 hits in the game, compared to just three hits for the Bulls, who got their first hit with two outs in the third.
Sophomore Ashton Earnhardt singled to start the fifth and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt as she became the only UB player to reach second base in the game. Senior Hayley Barrow recorded the other hit with an infield single in the fourth.
Freshman Charlotte Miller lasted just 0.1 innings as she picked up the loss, while redshirt sophomore Bobbi Langlois pitched the rest of the game. Erin Seiler got the win for the Zips as she struck out seven in five innings pitched.
"Today was disappointing because we didn't fight back," said head coach Trena Peel.
UB has now played 35 straight games away from Nan Harvey Field. It will host Canisius on Wednesday afternoon in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
