PRINCETON, NJ – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's tennis team was edged by 23rd-ranked Princeton, 4-3, Sunday at Jadwin Gym.
"Our goal this month is to swing free and take our chances," said sixth-year head coach Lee Nickell. "Today we did that and came up a little bit short. Credit to Princeton for taking our best shot and outlasting us. We have to do a better job of maintaining breaks in doubles, but other than that, there was nothing else we could have done better."
The Tigers (10-3) secured the doubles point, defeating the Bulls (8-4) at the first and second positions. UB juniors Pablo Alvarez and Amar Hromic outlasted the Tigers, 7-6 (5) at third doubles.
The duo also picked up singles wins. At the number two position, Alvarez defeated Alex Day, 7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-3, while Hromic picked up a fourth singles win over Luke Gamble in come-from-behind fashion, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. Sophomore Jonathan Hannestad took Dan Richardson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, at sixth singles.
The Bulls return to action on Saturday, March 7 at Brown.
