PROVIDENCE, RI – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's tennis team fell to 49th-ranked Brown, 6-1, Saturday afternoon. The Bears (8-2) claimed the doubles point from the Bulls (8-5) and won five of six singles matches.
"Today was a reality check for us," said sixth-year head coach Lee Nickell. "We had opportunities in doubles and didn't execute, then went into singles flat. Brown played extremely well and took it to us, but we didn't raise our games like we did the week before against Princeton. We have two hard weeks of practice to get prepared for a good Cornell squad."
Juniors Pablo Alvarez and Amar Hromic put up a fight at third doubles, but were edged by Brown, 7-6. Sophomore Jonathan Hannestad and junior Sergio Arevalillo's top-doubles match was knotted at 6-6, but suspended following a pair of Brown victories.
Hannestad secured a sixth-singles win, 6-2, 7-5, over Aaron Sanberg. The Bears took first through fifth singles in straight sets.
The Bulls will return to play on Sunday, March 22 at 46th-ranked Cornell.
