
Bulls Extend Winning Streak to Four with Win over Cornell

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, the State University of New York women's basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 59-41 victory over Cornell on Wednesday afternoon. UB, the nation's top ranked team in scoring defense was at it again, holding the Big Red to a season-low 41 points.
"Cornell is a great team. They are very stingy and will win a lot of games in the Ivy," head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. "But our young ladies are committed to defense and are playing for something bigger than themselves."
Joanna Smith paced the Bulls with a game-high 17 points and added seven rebounds. It was another strong performance for Katherine Ups as the sophomore had career highs of 10 points and nine rebounds in the game. Five of her nine rebounds came at the offensive end.
After a close game in the first half, the Bulls closed the half on a 5-0 scoring run to take a 32-26 lead at the break. The Bulls really clamped down on their patented defense in the second half, holding Cornell to just 3-of-21 shooting from the field.
The Bulls dominated the glass, outrebounding the Big Red, 47-30. Like Katherine Ups, Mariah Suchan also had a career-high nine rebounds. The Bulls pulled down 18 offensive rebounds and scored 12 second chance points.
Karin Moss sparked the Bulls off the bench with eight points, three assists and a season-high five steals. Stephanie Reid also scored eight points and added a game-high five assists.
Cornell (3-2) shot just 26.1 percent from the field for the game and were forced into 16 turnovers.
The Bulls are 4-0 for the first time since the 2000-01 season. They will next play at the UCF Thanksgiving Tournament against UCF and Clemson beginning on Saturday.
