
Women's Hoops Returns Home On Wednesday Afternoon Against Cornell

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's basketball team (3-0, 0-0 MAC) returns to Alumni Arena on Wednesday for a 2:00 pm matchup with the Cornell Big Red. The Bulls are coming off of a 56-48 victory at UMass on Saturday to improve to 3-0 on the year, marking the first 3-0 start since the 2000-01 campaign.
The Bulls are coming off of their most impressive victory of the season on Saturday as they went on the road and defeated the UMass Minutewomen, 56-48. Joanna Smith shined for the Bulls in the victory as she produced a career-high 21 points, nine rebounds and three steals while knocking down four three-pointers. The UB defense continued to be too much for opposing offenses as well, forcing 23 turnovers and limiting UMass to 48 points scored.
Smith has been the Bulls go to scorer this season as she is averaging a team-high 15.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game while point guard Stephanie Reid has continued to prosper as floor general, averaging 9.3 points, 6.0 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 3.2 steals. Off the bench, Mariah Suchan has been a pleasant surprise as she is averaging 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds while playing an average of 18 minutes per game.
The Cornell Big Red enter Wednesday's game with a 3-1 overall record after Monday night's win over Saint Francis University, 75-69. The Big Red have won three straight games after opening the season with a loss to Hartford. Cornell is led offensively by Nia Marshall who is averaging 20.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals so far this season. Nicholle Aston has had a nice start to the season as she is averaging 11.5 points and 6.3 rebounds while Maddie Campbell is averaging 10.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists on the year.
Tipoff is set for 2:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Arena. Admission on Wednesday will be free for all UB employees as well as children under 12 years old.
