
Bulls Drop Regular Season Finale

KENT, OH – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York volleyball team concluded its regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 loss at Kent State. The Bulls finished the MAC season with a 6-10 record, tied for its best MAC record in program history. UB will now await its MAC Tournament opponent.
The Golden Flashes took the contest, 25-16, 25-17, 25-23 as Kent State hit .361 opposed to just .167 for the Bulls. After dropping the opening set, the Bulls scored the first three points of the second set. The set was tied up at 10-10 following a kill from Akeila Lain, but Kent State regained the 16-12 advantage. The Bulls were down just 18-15 when the Golden Flashes ended the set on a 7-2 run.
UB opened a 5-3 lead in the third set following another kill from Lain and continued to lead 17-15 after a kill from freshman setter Madison Clark. The lead went back and forth in the late stages of the third as a kill by senior Megan Lipski tied the set up at 23-23, but Kent State scored the final two points for the victory.
Freshman Megan Wernette finished the match with eight kills and just one error on 18 swings, as she hit a team-high .389 for the Bulls. Lipski added eight kills and just two errors, while sophomore Cassie Shado and freshman Valisha Watkins each had six kills. Clark finished with 29 assists and three blocks.
Defensively, Lipski finished with 15 digs, while sophomore Niki Bozinoski added eight. UB had 7.0 blocks, led by three a piece from Clark, Lain, Shado and Wernette.
With five other Mid-American Conference matches still to be played this evening, the Bulls will wait on their seeding for the upcoming MAC Tournament, which begins Thursday in Athens, OH.
