
Bulls Fall To Kent State, 3-1

BUFFALO, NY – Despite winning the opening set on Friday night, the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York volleyball team was unable to pull out a win, falling to Kent State, 3-1, in front of 559 fans.
The Golden Flashes took the contest 21-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-20 as they outhit UB, .262 to .155. The Bulls got off to a good start, which included seven kills from sophomore Cassie Shado and three aces from junior Megan Lin in the first set. With the set tied at 14-14, the Bulls scored three straight points, but Kent State tied it back up at 17-17. However, this time UB responded with six straight points coming from the hot serving hand of Lin, who had back-to-back aces in the run. A kill by Shado clinched the set, 25-21.
The second set remained tied at the midway point, 16-16 when Kent State went on a 4-1 run to take a 20-17 lead. UB would get no closer than three for the remainder of the set as the Golden Flashes took it 25-21.
Kent State won the third set 25-14, but the Bulls tried to fight back in the fourth. They tied the set up at 15-15, but the Golden Flashes responded with six straight points to take a 21-15 lead. The Bulls weren't able to get any closer than 24-20 before a Kent State block ended the match.
Shado was dominant all evening as she finished with a career-high 15 kills without committing an error on 28 total attacks. Senior Megan Lipski added 11 kills, but had 11 errors. Freshmen Valisha Watkins and Megan Wernette finished with nine and eight kills, respectively.
Freshman Madison Clark recorded four kills off the bench in three sets, while committing just one errors on eight attacks. Senior Marissa Prinzbach finished with 41 assists and a team-high 10 digs.
Sophomore Tessa Ooyama and freshman Abby Beecher each added nine digs, as did Lipski. The Bulls had 7.0 total blocks, led by three each from Shado and Wernette.
The Bulls return home tomorrow night when they host Ohio at 7:00 pm. The Bobcats are 15-3 on the season and 5-0 in conference play after sweeping Akron on Friday night. Ohio has lost just one set in conference play.
