
UB Men's Tennis Team Dominates Singles Play to Edge Army, 4-3

WEST POINT, NY – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's tennis team (3-2) edged out host Army (0-1), 4-3, Friday afternoon on day one of the Army Kickoff at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
After narrowly dropping all three doubles matches to surrender the doubles point, the Bulls fought back to win four of six singles matches. The match was highlighted by a three-setter at first singles in the finale. With action knotted at 3-3, senior Damien David won the first, 6-4, before dropping the second 6-3. David ousted opponent, Sam Lampman, 6-2, in the third to secure the win for the Bulls.
UB kicked off singles play with three consecutive victories. At the third spot, junior Pablo Alvarez topped Grant Riechmann, 6-3, 6-1, before classmate Amar Hromic defeated Austin McCasin, 7-5, 6-3, at fifth singles. Sophomore Jonathan Hannestad snuck past Black Knight Michael Nguyen, 7-6 (6), 6-3 at the number six position for a 3-1 UB lead.
West Point picked up back-to-back wins at second and fourth singles to deadlock action at 3-3 with the match coming down to the first singles result.
The Bulls return to play on Saturday facing Boston College at Army at 3 pm.
