Bulls End Regular Season With 6-1 Win At Akron

AKRON, OH - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team ended the regular season on a high note Saturday afternoon as they defeated Akron, 6-1. The victory improves the Bulls to 14-5 and 5-3 in MAC play heading into next week's Mid-American Conference Tournament.
UB shuffled its doubles lineup this afternoon and got solid results, sweeping all three matches. At first doubles, the team of Tanvi Shah and Marta Stoyanova picked up an 8-4 win, while Miranda Podlas and Margarita Kotok teamed up for an 8-5 victory at two. UB scored its first win at third doubles as Anamaria Candanoza and Laura Holterbosch won 8-3.
The momentum carried into singles where the Bulls won five of the six matches. Shah scored a victory at first singles to put the Bulls up 2-0 before Akron scored its lone point at fourth singles. From there, the Bulls got a 6-1, 6-3 win from Holterbosch at six and Candanoza clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at five, completing an undefeated conference record in singles play. Junior Laura Fernandez won 6-2, 7-5 at third singles and Podlas finished the afternoon with a 6-2, 5-7, 10-3 victory at two.
The Bulls now turn their attention to the MAC Tournament, which will be held at Miami. UB will most likely be the fourth seed in the upcoming tournament, playing on Friday morning at 10:00 am.
