ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York women's basketball team will travel to Cornell Thursday to play its fourth straight road game at 7 pm in Newman Arena.
The Bulls (3-3) own a 9-4 advantage over the Big Red (3-3) in the series dating back to 1974-75. UB won six straight from 1993-94 through 2003-04, though Cornell has claimed back-to-back victories the last two seasons. Most recently, Cornell edged UB, 79-72, at Alumni Arena on Nov. 16, 2013.
The Bulls return to New York State after a trip south to take on #7/8 Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium and play a pair of games at the Miami (FL) Thanksgiving Tournament. UB defeated Illinois State, 68-60, in the consolation game Saturday. Senior captain Kristen Sharkey, who posted 30 points, nine rebounds and five steals against the Redbirds, was named to the all-tournament team.
For the year, UB has a field goal percentage of 33.1 and a free throw percentage of 73.1. The Bulls are averaging 68.3 points and 47.5 boards per game. Sharkey leads UB and the Mid-American Conference with 3.2 steals per game. Miley has a Bull-best 14 assists and Malone follows with 13. The Big Red picked up three consecutive wins over Colgate, Fairfield and Marshall after opening the season with back-to-back losses to Hartford and at Drexel. Cornell dropped a 59-51 decision at Bucknell Saturday. The Big Red are marginally outscoring opponents by 1.5 points per game, though are being outrebounded by 1.2 per contest. With the same starting five all six games, Cornell is shooting 38.6 percent from the floor and 64.4 percent at the line. Playing their first of three straight games at Newman Arena, the Big Red are 1-1 at home this season.
