
Bulls Fall To Conference-Leading Ohio

BUFFALO, NY – The State University of New York, Buffalo volleyball team lost 3-0 to Ohio University on Saturday night at Alumni Arena as the Bobcats won their 21st match of the season and their 15th straight this season. The Bulls, who celebrated Senior Day this evening, evened their record at 14-14 on the year and 4-10 in conference play.
The Bobcats took the contest 25-19, 25-15, 25-21 as they outhit the Bulls .234 to .131. UB had some opportunities in both the first and third sets, but were unable to pull away from an Ohio team that has remained unbeaten in conference play through the first 14 MAC matches. In the opening set, the Bulls were able to pull within 19-16 following a block from Akeila Lain and Cassie Shado, but the Bobcats went on a 6-3 run to take the set.
Ohio had its most dominating set in the second as the Bobcats hit .483 during the 25-15 victory. Ohio went ahead 16-10 in the third set before the Bulls went on a 5-1 run to pull within 17-15 after a kill from Amber Hatchett. The Bulls remained in contention as they were down 23-20 following a block from Hatchett and Skyler Day, but Ohio ended up winning the set 25-21.
Lain led the Bulls with 10 kills, while junior Megan Lipski added eight kills and Hatchett had six. Junior Marissa Prinzbach led the Bulls with 19 assists, while Megan Lin finished with 11.
Defensively, freshman Niki Bozinoski led UB again with 16 digs, while Lipski added 12. The Bulls have five total blocks led by three from Lain.
After the match, the Bulls honored their two senior in Sable Staller and Liz Scott. UB will remain home on Thursday as they host Akron at 7:00 pm.
