
Bulls Pick Up Road Victory At Akron

AKRON, OH - The State University of New York, Buffalo volleyball team picked up its first road conference victory on Thursday night as the Bulls swept Akron, 3-0, at Rhodes Arena. The victory improves UB's record to 13-6 on the year and 3-2 in Mid-American Conference play.
The Bulls took the contest 27-25, 25-19, 25-22 as UB outhit its opponent, .229 to .146. The Bulls had to fight their way back in the first set tonight as Akron got out to a 17-12 lead. However, a 6-1 run by the Bulls tied the set up at 18-18. The Bulls went ahead 24-22 in the set, but Akron fought off two set points and even took a 25-24 lead. UB then fought off an Akron set point and scored the final three points to take the set, 27-25.
The Bulls trailed again 17-12 in the second set before the Bulls caught fire and ended the set on a 13-2 run. The final two points game on back-to-back aces from Niki Bozinoski. UB ended up hitting .500 for the set as they had 11 kills and just one error on 20 total swings.
UB got out to the 17-12 lead in the third set and had things under control for most of the set despite Akron making a late run. The Zips pulled within 19-18, but a 5-1 run gave UB a 24-19 lead. Akron fought off three set points, but a kill from freshman Skyler Day clinched the set and the match for the Bulls.
Junior Megan Lipski led the Bulls with 13 kills, as she had just one error and hit .480 for the evening. Lipski also added nine digs. Day finished with her first career double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Junior Amber Hatchett added 11 kills to pace the double-figure performances. Sophomore Megan Lin finished with 35 assists and a match-high five service aces. She also added two blocks.
Defensively, Bozinoski had a match-high 13 digs. Senior Sable Staller added seven digs, while Lin had four. Bozinoski added two aces as the Bulls finished with nine for the match.
The Bulls return home on Saturday evening when they host Ball State at 7:00 pm.
