
Bulls Fall In Four At Western Michigan

BUFFALO, NY - The State University of New York, Buffalo volleyball team lost 3-1 to Western Michigan on Friday evening, beginning a two-match road swing through the west coast of the conference. The Bulls, who were playing their fourth road match in its last five contests, are now 13-8 on the year and 3-4 in conference play.
The Broncos took the contest 25-17, 25-15, 17-25, 25-16 as WMU hit .362 during the evening, opposed to .248 for UB. After falling in the first, the Bulls had their opportunities in the second, as they led 13-11 midway through the set. However, Western Michigan went on a 6-0 run to take a 17-13 lead. With the Broncos up 20-15, WMU recorded the final five points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Bulls came back strong in the third set though to keep the match going. UB held a slim 14-13 lead when it scored seven straight points to take a 21-14 advantage. UB went on to win the set 25-17 following a block from Cassie Shado and Marissa Prinzbach.
Western Michigan opened the fourth set on a 7-1 run and UB was able to pull within 14-9 before the Broncos put the match away with an 11-7 run.
Junior Akeila Lain led the Bulls with a career-high 16 kills, recording just three errors, and hitting .406 for the contest. Reigning MAC East Offensive Player of the Week Megan Lipski added 12 kills, while recording just three errors as well. Also having a strong offensive performance was freshman Skyler Day, who had eight kills and no errors, hitting a team-high .471. Prinzbach led the Bulls with 34 assists, while sophomore Megan Lin added 10.
Defensively, freshman Niki Bozinoski finished with a match-high 19 digs, while Lipski completed the double-double with 10 digs. Lin added nine and Day finished with eight. Shado finished with a team-high three blocks, while Lain had two, including one solo.
The Bulls will continue their road trip tomorrow evening when they face Northern Illinois, who is undefeated in conference play. The match with the Huskies will begin at 8:30 pm EST.
