
Kelly Svoboda Named MAC East Co-Defensive Player of the Week

BUFFALO, NY - Following a career-high 32 digs in a four-set win over Kent State, senior libero Kelly Svoboda has been named the MAC East Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. Svoboda led the Bulls to a two-match split to open conference play this past weekend as the Bulls now sit at 13-2 on the season and 1-1 in the MAC.
Svoboda, who is being honored for the second time this month, averaged 6.50 digs per set during the opening weekend of MAC play, highlighted by her 32-dig performance against Kent State. Svoboda, who averaged 8.0 digs per set in the match against the Golden Flashes, set a new career high, besting her old total of 31. She added 20 digs in the four-set loss to Ohio. Svoboda was also perfect in serve receive during the weekend as she passed all 67 of the balls served her way. She also added six assists and a service ace. Svoboda continues to lead the Bulls and the Mid-American Conference in digs at 5.90, which is 0.60 digs better than anyone else in the league. Svoboda is also currently fifth in the country in digs, just 0.40 digs per set behind the national leader.
In all, Svoboda has recorded 295 digs through the first 15 matches of the season and has moved into second place in school history in career digs with 1,604, just 280 behind UB's all-time leader Lizaiha Garcia.
Svoboda and the Bulls wrap up a six-match homestand on Thursday night against Akron at 7:00 pm.
