
Bulls Sweep Maryland-Eastern Shore In Saturday Tournament Action

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team won its 12th straight match on Saturday afternoon as the Bulls defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore, 3-0, moving their record to 12-0. The Bulls return to action tonight with the Blue and White Classic title on the line against 11-0 Ohio State.
UB took the contest, 25-23, 25-15, 25-16 as it hit .368, its third highest total of the season. The Buffalo defense held UMES to just .095. The Bulls trailed for most of the first set, including 23-19 late in the set. However, UB scored the final six points of the set for the 25-23 victory.
The Bulls hit .545 in the second set as they went on a 10-5 run to take a 17-12 lead in the set. With the Bulls up 18-15, UB scored the final seven points to go up 2-0 in the match. In the third set, UB went on a quick 6-2 run to take a 10-6 lead and the Bulls had their biggest lead at nine as they went ahead 23-14. A kill from senior Carissa McKenna ended the set and the match for UB.
McKenna led the way with 13 kills and just two errors, as she hit .524 for the match. Sophomore Tahleia Bishop added 11 kills and just one error as she hit .476. Senior Dana Musil added seven kills, while Kaja Schirmer and Christine Frtische each had five. Senior Dani Reinert finished with a season-high 35 assists, while freshman Megan Lin saw her first collegiate action and had seven assists.
Senior Kelly Svoboda finished with 17 digs, while Musil added nine. The Bulls had 9.0 total blocks, including five in the opening set. Sophomore Amber Hatchett had four total blocks, including a solo, while McKenna also finished with four total blocks.
In earlier action, Ohio State defeated Valparaiso, 3-0. The Crusaders and Hawks will play this afternoon at 4:30 pm. UB and Ohio State will match up in a battle of undefeated teams this evening at 7:00 pm. The Bulls and Buckeyes are two of eight remaining undefeated teams in the country.
