BUFFALO, NY – Senior libero Kelly Svoboda was named the MAC East Defensive Player of the Week, the Mid-American Conference announced from its league office on Monday afternoon. Svoboda helped the Bulls to the Georgia State Invite Championship and helped keep UB perfect at 9-0.
Svoboda averaged 6.60 digs per set over the three matches and ended the weekend with a pair of 20-dig performances, both in three-set matches. Svoboda had 25 digs in the win over UCF and added 22 digs in the victory over Georgia State. Svoboda was also an extremely efficient passer during the weekend as she had just five receiving errors in 114 attempts. Svoboda also added two service aces.
Svoboda currently leads the Mid-American Conference at 5.69 digs per set. Her defense has helped Buffalo to a nation-best opponent hitting percentage of .071.
"Kelly has been one of our most consistent performers so far this year and she is a big part of the team's success," said head coach Todd Kress. "Her first-ball contact has been solid and she has been able to set our offense up for success."
Svoboda and the Bulls wrap up a seven-match road trip tomorrow night at Canisius. Match time is 6:00 pm.
